Which Chapter to Start With If You Only Read One

If someone only has time for one chapter, Larry’s own material points to PQRST as the place to start, not the flashier pen-drop close everyone asks about first. The pen-drop close is the chapter people share, quiet confidence, a pen set down, the room filling the silence, but it only works if the prep underneath it is real. PQRST, Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, Test, is the load-bearing chapter, the one every later framework quietly assumes you already know.

Which Chapter to Start With If You Only Read One

House money assumes you have already done the prep to close deals reliably enough to build a cushion in the first place. Karma assumes you show up prepared enough to notice the small moments, a thank-you, a fast reciprocation, that later pay off. Even External API, plugging into something that already works, requires the Read and Summarize habit to evaluate whether the thing you are plugging into is actually proven.

Starting with PQRST means the other chapters read like applications of a method you already have, instead of separate tricks with nothing holding them together. Starting with SuperModel instead is not wrong, it is just a faster payoff with a shorter half-life, since the posture reads as hollow once someone notices the prep is not there.

Larry’s own sequencing backs this up: PQRST comes before the pen-drop close in the book, not after, and the order was not an accident. A reader who only takes PQRST away and applies it consistently will outperform a reader who memorized every chapter but skipped the one that makes the rest usable.

This is the chapter to reread before a real meeting, not the one to read once and file away as a fun idea. The video below is the clearest version of Larry explaining PQRST on camera.
