The Health Base That Lets You Show Up Early

Showing up early to a meeting sounds like a scheduling choice, but it is really a health choice made days before. You cannot arrive twenty minutes ahead of a high-ticket meeting if the night before wrecked your sleep and the morning is a scramble. Larry Chiang’s PQRST habit starts before you walk in the door, previewing the room and reading the material takes time you only have if you arrived early enough to spend it.

The Health Base That Lets You Show Up Early

A health base, consistent sleep, regular meals, some kind of movement, is what makes early arrival possible on a repeatable basis, not just the one time you happen to feel good. Larry’s house money idea is about a cushion of cash so you never negotiate from need, and a health base is the same cushion applied to your body. Without it, every early arrival is a lucky break, and luck is not a system you can run city to city the way Larry runs his franchise idea.

The habit has to be boring enough to repeat: a consistent bedtime, a breakfast you do not have to think about, a route you know well enough to leave slack in it. Arriving early gives you time to do the SuperModel setup, find your seat, settle your notebook, take the listening position before anyone else walks in.

It also gives you time to notice the room, who else is there, how it is arranged, details that matter once the actual conversation starts. People who are chronically late are not usually bad at scheduling, they are usually running on a body that cannot support the plan they wrote.

Build the base first, sleep and food and movement on a schedule, and the early arrivals take care of themselves. It is unglamorous work, and it is the actual foundation under every polished entrance Larry describes.
